Wordle overview

Wordle asks you to identify a hidden five-letter word in no more than six valid guesses. Each submitted row marks exact letters, misplaced letters, and absent letters to narrow the remaining possibilities. This GamingLand version offers unlimited random puzzles and is not affiliated with The New York Times.

Controls and modes

Use a physical keyboard or the on-screen letter keys, Enter, and Backspace. Rookie, Pro, and Nightmare select progressively trickier answer banks; New Word starts another random puzzle.

Strategy tips

  • Begin with a word containing several common letters rather than repeated characters.
  • Reuse correctly placed letters and move misplaced letters to untested positions.
  • Eliminate confirmed absent letters unless a duplicate-letter result gives you a reason to retest one.
  • By the final turns, choose a possible answer rather than a word that merely tests extra letters.

Worked example: Why a repeated letter can be absent

Use APPLE as an illustrative answer and ALLEY as the guess. This is a teaching example, not the answer to your current puzzle.

  1. The A is in the correct first position. Reserve that match before judging the remaining letters.
  2. The first L is present elsewhere, but the second L is absent: APPLE has only one L available. The E is present elsewhere, and Y is absent.
  3. The row therefore reads correct, present, absent, present, absent. Keep A first, try L in a different position, and move E away from the fourth position.

An absent duplicate does not mean the letter is completely missing. It can mean you guessed more copies than the answer contains. GamingLand checks exact positions before allocating misplaced letters.

Wordle questions

Is this a once-per-day puzzle?

No. You can start a new random word whenever you want.

Does difficulty restrict which guesses are accepted?

No. Difficulty changes the hidden-word bank, while guesses are checked against the full accepted dictionary.
