Word500 overview

Word500 gives you eight attempts to find a five-letter word, with only three totals after each valid guess. Green counts exact positions, yellow counts matching letters elsewhere, and red counts unmatched letters. The letters themselves stay neutral, so you must work out which letters contributed to the totals. Rookie, Pro, and Nightmare use the same answer banks and accepted guesses as GamingLand Wordle.

Controls and modes

Choose a level, then use A–Z, Backspace, and Enter on a physical keyboard or the on-screen keys. New Game and Change Level reset the word and guesses after confirming an unfinished round.

Strategy tips

• Start with common, varied letters to collect information about several possibilities at once.
• Compare totals across guesses. A green total does not tell you which position is correct.
• Remember that each answer letter can be matched only once. Extra copies may count red even when that letter appears in the answer.
• Compare the totals across guesses to test which letters and positions are still possible.
• Near the eighth guess, prioritize a possible answer over another exploratory word.

Worked example: What the totals reveal—and what they hide

Suppose the answer is APPLE and you submit ALLEY. Word500 uses the same matching rule as Wordle but hides which tiles produced the feedback.

1. An exact A contributes one green. One L and the E contribute two yellows. The extra L and the Y contribute two reds.
2. You see Green 1, Yellow 2, Red 2. During a real round, the game does not identify A as the green letter; that is known here only because this example reveals the answer.
3. Compare that with a later guess rather than treating matching totals as proof of the same letters. If you solve on your fourth guess, the score is 700: 1,100 minus 4 × 100.

Two different guesses can produce identical totals without confirming the same letters. Reconsider possible letters when new totals contradict them, and save a final attempt for an actual candidate answer.

How does Word500 handle repeated letters?

It first reserves every exact-position match, then matches remaining guess letters to unused answer letters. All leftover guess letters count red. The three totals always add to five.

Are keyboard colors confirmed hints?

No. Keyboard keys stay neutral throughout the round. Use the green, yellow, and red totals beside each submitted guess to narrow down the answer.

Which words and levels does Word500 use?

Rookie, Pro, and Nightmare share the exact answer lists used by GamingLand Wordle. Every level accepts guesses from the same full five-letter dictionary. Repeated letters can occur in any level.

How are points awarded?

A win on guess one earns 1,000 points. Each extra guess subtracts 100 points, down to 300 on guess eight. Losing earns zero. The highest Word500 score is saved in your browser.

Can I play another puzzle right away?

Yes. Play Again or Try Again starts another word at the same level, avoiding the previous answer when possible and clearing your guesses.
